The Alexandria Project Selects OPALS for their catalog software

OPALS logoOne of the first needs of a library is a catalog system. The Alexandra iBase Project has chosen OPALS (Open-source Automated Library System), a powerful cooperatively developed, Web-based and open source program.

This alternative technology provides Internet access to information databases, library collections and digital archives. Many school, college, research, business, religious and library union catalogs use OPALS. As this project will be starting small, we also wanted a system that offered web hosting for our catalog.  OPALS is a powerful, turnkey Internet accessible system. The “total cost of ownership” of this standards-based, feature rich software is demonstrably and undeniably sustainable as the AIP grows its collection. The OPALS system will allow us to host multiple library catalogs as well as digital materials, including ebooks, video and audio.
