This rare publication traces the evolution of astrology from its Chaldean and Oriental religious roots into a structured Greek “science” founded on the principles of universal sympathy and the mathematical abstraction of the zodiac. Early Greek philosophers like Pythagoras and the Stoics provided the logic of cosmic harmony and mutual interdependence, while later medieval practitioners such as Abu Ma’shar and Guido Bonatti integrated Aristotelian physics and Hermetic gnosis to establish astrology as a legitimate intellectual framework for understanding the soul’s relationship to the cosmos. This synthesis defined the stars as a formal cause of terrestrial events and established the horoscope as a tool to interpret the “will of God” through celestial motions.
